What is the best method of carpet cleaning?
88.6% of carpet cleaning professionals can't be wrong!

Various methods of carpet cleaning serve different functions, both in maintenance and restorative cleaning.

According to a survey conducted by Cleanfax, an industry publication, 88.6% of professional carpet cleaners use hot water extraction (also called steam cleaning) as their number one cleaning method. Dry foam cleaning (such as ChemDry) is used by a mere 1.5% of professionals surveyed.

Why? Results! There is a reason that so many carpet cleaning companies that use hot water extraction are called in to clean up after a dry foam job that simply didn't do the job.

Furthermore, both Shaw Industries and Mohawk, who manufacture more than 2/3 of the world's carpet, recommend hot water extraction cleaning.

Selecting the Right Cleaning Professional

Find IICRC-Certified Firms and Technicians

Finding a reputable, professional carpet, upholstery and hard surface cleaning company is important! The right choice will provide peace of mind and confidence about the quality of service they will perform.

Simply put, you want an IICRC- Certified Firm and Technicians!

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) has served as the industry guardian for the cleaning, inspection and restoration service industries for more than 30 years. A non-profit organization, the IICRC helps ensure consumers have access to trained and trusted cleaning professionals by establishing and monitoring certification programs and standards for these industries.

To qualify for IICRC-Certified Firm status, businesses must demonstrate proof of insurance, maintain a written customer complaint policy with documented follow-up and provide ongoing education and training leading to certification for all technicians. IICRC-Certified Firms are also required to abide by the IICRC Code of Ethics. Services provided by IICRC-Certified professionals range from flooring inspection and cleaning to water and fire damage restoration.

When looking for a professional to clean your carpet, upholstery and hard surfaces, the IICRC suggests the following:

  • Technicians should be trained and certified to handle both residential and commercial furnishings and able to provide proof of certification
  • Technicians should be able to answer basic questions about cleaning, general maintenance, spot removal and other questions about your carpet, upholstery and rugs.
  • Technicians and the IICRC-Certified Firm should be able to provide references.

IICRC-Certified Technicians:

  • Have attended one or more IICRC-approved courses, successfully completing a written examination;
  • Maintain their credentials by participating in IICRC-approved continuing education programs;
  • Are able to offer proof of IICRC-Certification;
  • Pledge to conduct business honestly, observing the IICRC Code of Ethics and maintaining the highest standard of workmanship and service
  • Are trained to identify fibers, furnishings and flooring types, to select approved cleaning methods, and to clean and restore your furnishings with the utmost safety and skill.

A1 is proud to be an IICRC-Certified Firm. Every one of our technicians is IICRC-certified and each is required to attain one additional certification per year. We take carpet cleaning so seriously, even our administrative team members are IICRC-certified Carpet Technicians!
