Pet Odor & Urine Stain Removal

Odor in homes can arise from many sources, but pet urine is among the most challenging to remediate.  Most consumers cannot completely remove pet urine from wall-to-wall carpet or area rugs because the commonly available products only provide temporary relief (if any) and mask, not eliminate, the odor-causing elements.

Pet (or human) urine contains three main elements:

  • Urea, a sticky substance;
  • Urochrome, the element that gives urine its yellow color;
  • Uric acid, a mildly acidic, nitrogen-rich substance.

After urine has penetrated the carpet fibers, it dries, forming uric acid crystals that bond securely to the carpet backing.  Any type of moisture, from high humidity in the air to actual water-flooding of the carpet, will continually reactivate the uric acid crystals.  Until the urine damage is appropriately treated, it has the ability to “recreate” urine and odor indefinitely, with the presence of moisture.

Odor removal, in general, involves a few simple principles:

    • Remove the source (urine, in this instance) as soon as possible;
    • Clean all affected surfaces and materials;
    • Use appropriate counteracting solutions;
    • Seal restorable surfaces as necessary.

A1 professionals have enzyme deodorant and powerful oxidizing agents that digest or destroy odor-causing protein and/or bacteria that are the source of urine odor.  More importantly, we have efficient extraction equipment that is capable of flushing the suspended, agitated or dissolved substances from the carpet to leave it residue and odor-free.

In cases of extreme urine contamination, pet urine may have penetrated the carpet padding and even the subflooring of the home.  Contamination of this extreme degree requires several steps of treatment which may include A1 Carpet Cleaning Process; removal and replacement of carpet, padding, or both; and possibly even sealing the home’s subflooring.

Whatever your personal needs, A1 will thoroughly inspect your carpet, perform necessary services to the highest standards, and leave your carpet softer, cleaner, fresher, sanitized and deodorized.
